Research
Capsaicin used topically has been shown to effectively treat pruritus (itching) in psoriasis patients. Its analgesic effect is mediated by its effect on sensory-C fibers which causes depletion of substance P from nerve terminals. Capsaicin has also been evaluated as a treatment for diabetes, obesity and postoperative nausea.
